Age is just a Number: Lifelong Riding

Horses are a lifelong devotion.

This is just a handful of our ladies that make up our “Mature Ladies Ride” with an age range from 63 to 81 years old.

This spirited gang of women have been riding with me every other week in fair weather seasons for over a decade. We take strolls through the woods, trots around the fields and canters down the dirt roads, to this day.

They are seasoned lifelong riders, seasoned competent humans and to me they are seasoned friends. Everyone at the barn looks forward to their ride each week.

They joined me at my barn over 10 years ago as the last of their horses passed away or were retired and they no longer wanted to “own a horse that may outlive them.” They also said they didn’t mind me putting the saddle up on the horse for them anymore 😉

Years have gone by now and they are still riding. This year the last of their horses have passed but they are still riding. Still going strong. And Virginia keeps pushing us to go faster and keep cantering.

These are the women I hope to grow up and emulate!! True horsewomen.
